Valencia is Famous for Ceramics

Yesterday, we visited the Ceramics Museum.  The stuff displayed in it was interesting enough, BUT the true museum was the building that housed the museum.  It was incredible. It was a palace designed by a guy who eventually went mad...perhaps he was a bit mad when he designed it.  It appeared to be made of pretty much marble, even the outside walls of the palace.  But it turns out it was all ceramic material made to look like marble - faux marble.  Check this place out!  Much of it was really gaudy but some was really classy and beautiful.  Oh, and there was a lot of ceramics in it. :)
We had a lovely lunch in one of the main plazas in the center of the city.  Rested and revived, we headed up to check out one of the remaining gates in the city.  The old city wall was taken down a long, long time ago as the city grew but there are two gates remaining.  Below is one of them, the Serrano Towers.  As it was siesta time (2 - 4:30) and everything was closed we didn't get to go up in the tower.

As I wrote yesterday, the city is now surrounded by a huge park which used to be the river bed.  There remain numerous bridges - traffic and pedestrian - over the park.  We wandered around it a bit and took a bus ride along much of it.  It is filled with trees, park areas and lots of soccer fields. I think it is about a football field wide and it stretches something like 6 miles.  What a wonderful facility to have in the city.
We headed home for rest by bus.  I was tired and my feet hurt.  Can you tell?
I made us a lovely home cooked dinner (we have a really, really nice kitchen now) and spent the evening doing some research for future treks in and around Valencia.  (Wait til you see what Larry found for us to do to today!)
