Festivals and Bridges

We went to the festival the next morning and it was incredible - a parade with lots of traditionally clad Provencal people - the rich and the peasants. The highlight of the parade was the 'float' drawn by 88 brightly decorated draught horses all tied together in a line. Quite a feat to get them all moving at once in the same direction and keep them doing that all around the town twice. Incredible!

The house we are staying in a very old typical French house. The owner is in the midst of renovating it nad fortunately the bathrooms were done first. The bathroom (tub and sink) are upstairs. The toilet is downstairs! I'm not sure I am going to tackle actually using the kitchen :) We are extemely well located and have already enjoyed several side trips.

Our first outing was to St-Remy-de-Provence. Then yesterday to Pont-du-Gard (an amazing three story Roman aquaduct which was built to bring wate to Nimes. Incredible to think how long ago this was built.
Then we drove over to Millau to see what is most likely the newest bring in France - quite amazing. They built a whole visitor's center for viewing it. It is much like the Sunshine Bridge in Tampa but it onlycrosses a little river and a large valley.

All in all we're having a fabulous time. Wish you were all here....well, maybe not quite, but you get the idea.

  1. I had not know you were going to be in Avignon. We have stayed just outside the city in Villeneuve-les-Avignon at La Prieure. Nice place, especially nice food. The modern bridge is amazing. Enjoy the wine and cool air. We are having 95-100 degree days here.

  2. Thanks for the travelogue, Dot! It's great. I can almost smell the stinky cheese and feel the disdain from storekeepers as I try what's left of my college French. ;^) Keep having a great time, and I'll follow your quest with interest.
